When Randolph Health upgraded to what they call “data-driven operations,” they thought their staff would be excited to pull up dashboards with information. According to Angela Burgess, VP of operations and CIO, the reality turned out to be more complicated. They had built their data strategy for some time using Dimensional Insight and it was key for them to provide value to their organization and not just data. In this video, Burgess and George Dealy, VP of healthcare solutions at Dimensional Insight, talk about what Randolph Health staff really needed and how the Dimensional Insight solution provided it.
People differ in how they want to receive and use information. Although some like dashboards, others want key statistics delivered by email. Others want pre-loaded spreadsheets to allow them to do their own data mining. Understanding these needs takes work including meeting to interview different staff about their interests and what data could fulfill it.
Some of the achievements of data-driven operations include tracking who gets discharged to other facilities, allowing Randolph Health to expand its offerings with less guesswork. Telehealth is sometimes employed. They can also identify people with long lengths of stay, who have trouble getting out because of Social Determinants of Health (SDoH). Sometimes the data just allows people to “get to action” every morning, and stop “churning” while they investigate what’s happening in their department. That’s a key outcome with so many organizations in healthcare being short staffed and experiencing burnout.
Watch the video to learn about the benefits of data and what’s coming next for both this facility and the industry in general.
