Review of Zebra’s New ET40-HC and ET45-HC Tablets Designed for Healthcare

If you work with devices in healthcare, then you’re likely familiar with Zebra and their line of mobile computing devices.  For a number of years, Zebra has had one of the most healthcare focused handheld mobile computing devices the size of a cell phone on the market.  They were more rugged than your traditional cell phone and had enterprise features that made IT administrators lives easier.

After listening to their customers, Zebra heard that healthcare could really benefit from a tablet sized device that was designed for healthcare as well.  Sometimes the smaller cell phone type screen wasn’t big enough for doctors and nurses or other healthcare use cases.  Plus, the consumer tablets weren’t rugged enough to withstand the abuse that happens with nurses or doctors carrying them around or a tablet mounted beside or at admissions.

With this in mind, I was excited to get the opportunity to review the Zebra ET4x-HC Series Tablets that Zebra has recently brought to market.  The initial launch comes in two models: ET40-HC and ET45-HC. The two models are roughly identical with the exception of the ET40-HC being a Wi-Fi only device with support for Wi-Fi 6 and the ET45-HC being a Wi-Fi and cellular device with support for Wi-Fi 6 and 5G.

Zebra was kind enough to send me a model to test and review.  Just holding it in your hand, you can feel the ruggedness of the device and you can see the thoughtful design that went into their first tablet.  Everything from their approach to plastics and housing that can withstand regular cleaning to the placement of programmable buttons, these small design choices will help to reduce burnout for your staff rather than contribute to it.
