5 Things You Need To Know About Day 2 at HIMSS22

Day 2 of #HIMSS22 is complete and so far, the conference has been a pleasant surprise. The exhibit hall is full, people are smiling, and the comments from both vendors and providers has been generally positive.

Here are five things you need to know from HIMSS Day 2

  1. The Exhibit Hall was Busy

The main aisle in the HIMSS22 exhibit hall was busy. It wasn’t back to the level of 2019 (thankfully) where you had to push your way through the sea of attendees, but it certainly wasn’t the ghost town that was HIMSS21.

  1. People are Excited to See Each Other

After 2 years without in-person conferences, it is clear that people are yearning to reconnect in-person. Everywhere you looked – in booths, session rooms, and the hallways – people were smiling and excitedly greeting each other.

Yes, COVID-19 is still with us, but it was heartwarming to see people hugging friends and colleagues who they haven’t seen in 2+ years.

  1. After-hours Events are Back

The number of after-hours events being held at HIMSS22 was impressive. On Day 2, I counted no fewer than 7 overlapping events between the hours of 6-8pm and another 5 from 8-10pm. I went to two of the events and they were both very well attended.

I heard through the grapevine that the Salesforce event had an hour wait and one other event had reached capacity.

  1. AI is no longer over-hyped

Before the pandemic, the HIMSS exhibit hall was full of exhibitors extolling the wonderful things that Artifical Intelligence would help organizations achieve. At HIMSS22 it is clear that the approach to AI is more pragmatic – there were not any wildly optimistic claims on what the technology can do.

  1. Companies are Looking for Talent

Almost every company I spoke with had open positions that they were trying to fill – everything from sales and marketing to help desk and development. The majority of these opportunities were brand new (ie: not to backfill someone who had left). I see this as an encouraging sign that companies are growing once again after two years of relative stagnation.

I’m excited to see what Day 3 of #HIMSS22 brings.
