The Right Telehealth Workflows – #HITsm Chat Topic

We’re excited to share the topic and questions for this week’s #HITsm chat happening Friday, 6/19 at Noon ET (9 AM PT). This week’s chat will be hosted by Kate Corbett, PMP, CSM (@CorbettKr) from @CstoneAdvisors on the topic of “The Right Telehealth Workflows“.

On the rapid adoption of telemedicine during the pandemic: “Our CEO of Mayo has stated all along that we’d like to be doing that type of medicine by 2030,” Dr. Fitzgerald said. “We really did it all in six to eight weeks.”  (Source article)

#COVID-19 accelerated the deployment of virtual care by years. In the rush of rapid technology deployment and adoption, have we stopped to ask ourselves if these telehealth workflows are right for patients and providers?

Suddenly advertisements proclaim the availability of convenient telemedicine anytime, anywhere. Providers conduct their normal scheduled visits using a video conferencing tool. Patients access a clinician 24×7 by chat or phone to triage their symptoms. A service allows patients to access on-demand video visits with third-party providers.

With the rush to grow virtual care services, downsides of these workflows that pose risks to quality of care and patient satisfaction include challenges maintaining the shift to value, new data silos, and exponential growth in the number of best of breed applications and devices to be managed by patients and providers.

Join us Friday for a chat on the right telehealth workflows.

Topics for this week’s #HITsm Chat:

T1: What part of healthcare delivery workflow was not addressed effectively in the COVID19 telehealth implementation rush? What are the barriers to taking this part of care virtual? #HITsm

T2: What should the healthcare industry begin doing today to assess and maintain quality when delivering telehealth services? #HITsm

T3: How does technology allow for the provider to maintain continuity in their relationship with their patients, maintaining patient loyalty as more care is delivered virtually? #HITsm

T4: How does telehealth support the shift to value-based care? What gaps does it expose on the path to value? #HITsm

T5: How can we approach virtual care innovation differently so that we put patients and providers first instead of the technology? #HITsm

Bonus: What’s the worst telehealth workflow you’ve experienced or heard about? #HITsm
