ONC has announced a new 2020 grant opportunity for health IT companies called Leading Edge Acceleration Projects (LEAP). ONC will be giving out up to $1 million for the Advanced Registry Infrastructure area, up to $1 million for the Cutting Edge Health IT Tools area, and up to $500k for the Integrating HHS Data area. Here’s the announcement with the three areas ONC will be focusing this grant money in 2020:
ONC has released a special emphasis notice under its Leading Edge Acceleration Projects (LEAP) in Health Information Technology (Health IT) notice of funding opportunity (NAP-AX-18-003) to address the development and testing of data sharing functionalities to support clinical care, research, and improved health care outcomes. In fiscal year 2020, ONC is interested in applications whose specific aims address one of the following areas:
- Advancing Registry Infrastructure for a Modern API-based Health IT Ecosystem
- Cutting Edge Health IT Tools for Scaling Research
- Integrating Health Care and Human Services Data to Support Improved Outcomes
When you look through the full notice of funding opportunity, you’ll see that doing this grant is no joke. You’ll likely need someone that has experience submitting grants to be successful. Plus, it outlines that for profits are not eligible unless they’re partnered with a non-profit, government entity, or educational institution.
HHS announced 2 LEAP Health IT Winners back in 2018, Children’s Hospital Corporation in Boston, MA and MedStar Health Research Institute in Hyattsville, MD. Might be worth reaching out to them to learn from their experience if you’re interested in applying for the grant.
There’s also a LEAP in Health IT FAQ which is quite technical, but you might find useful. Plus, they’re holding an information webinar session on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 2-3 EST that you can access from the LEAP in Health IT page.
