Healthcare “after” COVID-19: Should Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) Finally Take a Front Seat? – #HITsm Chat Topic

We’re excited to share the topic and questions for this week’s #HITsm chat happening Friday, 4/3 at Noon ET (9 AM PT). This week’s chat will be hosted by Jim St. Clair (@jstclair1) on the topic of “Healthcare “after” COVID-19: Should Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) finally take a front seat?”.

The Pandemic is rapidly changing consideration around care delivery and reminding of the criticality of public health and population heath. Prior to the pandemic, SDoH was being discussed and adopted with greater enthusiasm, but challenges remain. In light of pandemic response, how can the elements of SDoH be considered in the future?

Join us for this week’s #HITsm chat where we’ll discuss COVID-19 and Social Determinants of Health (SDoH).

Topics for this week’s #HITsm Chat:

T1: Before the Pandemic, were you engaging in discussions on SDoH as part of the continuum of care?  What were the main themes?

T2: Are there principles and/or elements of SDoH that can be considered as part of pandemic response?

T3: As part of adopting to a “post-COVID future” what things should be considered in factoring in SDoH?

T4: Given the spectrum of security challenges in SDoH, is the clinician the best person to collect data? If not, who else should be included?

T5: In your opinion, what tools are important in assessing and managing elements of SDoH? How can clinicians guide issues of SDoH, either as part of public health or episode of care?

Bonus: The revenue cycle model doesn’t easily accommodate SDoH in billing and utilization. What should hospital admins know to consider and guide the use of SDoH in the future?
