Discover The Secret Trifecta of Performance Data to Deliver Better Patient Care

The following is a guest article by Stacy Leidwinger, CMO of Goliath Technologies.

Imagine this. A doctor is sitting at a keyboard in an exam room with a patient, pale and clammy, watching over her shoulder. The patient flinches as the doc hammers the keyboard in frustration over slow response time. Hearing the commotion, a person in scrubs pops a head inside with a quizzical look.

“Tell those people in IT to get Epic running like it should be! I’m burning time here.”

But the problem isn’t Epic. The performance bottleneck began the moment the doc opened a Citrix session, and every app in that session is suboptimal. She assumes it’s Epic simply because that’s what she’s using.

What if… the Health IT service desk team — who are about to get a random demand from a passing PA to “fix whatever’s wrong with Epic” — could see all the factors impacting the doctor’s experience at a glance? And single out the root cause in an instant? And almost as quickly remediate it? (And even spot the root cause ahead of time so the doc doesn’t throw a hissy fit in front of a patient.)

Such a feat — if it were possible — would require visibility into Citrix or VMware Horizon delivery infrastructure metrics: logon times, logon duration, session performance, Citrix and VMware Horizon protocols, etc.

It would also require a performance view into user behavior. Like, does the clinician have a large audio file running in the background? Is a massive document sitting in Clipboard? Clinician workspace behavior can heavily impact performance.

Now, the trifecta: you would also need data from EHR apps (Epic, Cerner, MEDITECH, Allscripts). If you could see performance data from apps like Epic, you would easily be able to correlate key metrics with other performance apps.

A dream? No. Purpose-built technologies exist today that intelligently create a single, unified view of technology factors affecting the clinician experience, including virtual desktop delivery infrastructure, user behavior, and EHR apps.

By proactively monitoring every clinician’s workspace experience within your complex and hybrid IT infrastructure, you can once and for all ensure uptime, availability, and seamless access to clinicians’ virtual workspaces and EHR apps.

This is how Health IT Pros can change the world of patient care into a better place.
