We’re excited to share the topic and questions for this week’s #HITsm chat happening Friday, 9/13 at Noon ET (9 AM PT). This week’s chat will be hosted by Kate Huvane Gamble (@khgamble) from Health System CIO on the topic “Patient Engagement”.
For years we’ve been hearing about a major shift when it comes to how care is provided. Gone are the days when the physician encounter consisted of a one-way conversation. Now, we’re hearing that patients are at the center. It’s all about the patient. Patients are taking control, etc.
You get the idea.
Of course, as consumers, this is music to our ears. Or at least it would be, if the Ritz-Carlton-type encounters where patients can schedule our own appointments, at our convenience, and have easy access to providers, were the norm. In reality, the experience often falls short of expectations, particularly when the bar has been set so high by other verticals.
In reality, the myriad hurdles facing clinicians – as well as hospital leaders – are standing in the way. And it begs the question, are we really headed in the right direction when it comes to improving patient engagement? And if not, what’s going to get us there?
Join us for this week’s #HITsm chat where we’ll be discussing patient engagement.
Topics for this week’s #HITsm Chat:
T1: For the most part, do you consider yourself a technophobe or technophile? #HITsm
T2: Have you, as a patient or caregiver, been given the opportunity to engage with providers using technology? #HITsm
T3: Has the experience lived up to your expectations? (Why or why not?) #HITsm
T4: It’s unfair to compare healthcare with other industries (i.e., banking, transportation) when it comes to leveraging technology to improve consumer engagement. Agree or disagree? #HITsm
T5: Do you worry that too much technology can de-personalize care? #HITsm
Bonus: If you had the opportunity to speak with a Chief Engagement Officer (or leader in a similar role) about how to improve engagement, what would you say? #HITsm
