The 2019 HIMSS Annual Conference is just under 4 weeks away. For those not familiar with the event, it’s the behemoth of healthcare IT conferences which brings together 40,00-50,000 of your closest healthcare IT friends and 1300+ exhibitors at the Convention Center in Orlando, Fl. It’s a week-long healthcare IT extravaganza where you can connect with a wide variety of people from across the industry. However, it can no doubt be overwhelming for those attending for the first time (or even the 20th time for that matter).
At Healthcare Scene, we’ve found one of the best ways to learn at the event is to engage with as many people as possible. Hearing people’s first-hand experiences and insights into what’s really happening in the industry is a powerful way to know what we should write about and cover for you here at Healthcare IT Today. Plus, we come out of the event with an amazing network of new contacts and friends.
With that in mind, our favorite way to engage with healthcare IT people at HIMSS is through our popular healthcare IT meetups. This year we’ve chosen a really fascinating cross-section of the hottest healthcare IT topics for our meetups. Plus, we’re lucky to have a great set of partners who share their space with us to make these meetups possible.
If you like to take part and listen to engaging discussions at #HIMSS19, we hope you’ll join us at the following meetups we’ll be holding in Orlando.
Note: Only the New Media Meetup requires registration. All of the rest you can just show up and attend.

Tuesday, February 12th – 10:30 – 11:30 AM at the NextGate Booth #926
SDoH (Social Determinants of Health) is one of the more important topics in healthcare right now. It’s become such an important topic as healthcare organizations start getting paid based on how well they take care of a population of patients as opposed to getting paid for the services they render. Join our panel of experts Daniel Cidon (@nextgate), Minakshi Tikoo, PhD, MBI, MS, MSc, Jane Sarasohn-Kahn (@healthythinker), Lygeia Ricciardi (@Lygeia), and John Lynn (@techguy) as we have an open discussion on how organizations can use social determinant data. We’ll talk about the practical challenges associated with SDoH and where we see SDoH really making a difference.

Come and join the discussion with Sunnie Southern (@SunnieSouthern), Michael Joseph (@HealthData4All), Matt Fisher (@Matt_R_Fisher), Shahid Shahd (@ShahidNShah), Dan Trott (@DantrottDell), and John Lynn (@techguy) about living in a multi-cloud world and how you and your organization can deal with the costs and challenges associated with it.

Wednesday, February 13th – 10:00 – 11:00 AM at DellEMC Booth #3159
We’re seeing IoT (Internet of Things) pop up all over the full continuum of patient care. Our expert panel of Michael Archuleta (@Michael81082), Michael Joseph (@HealthData4All), Nick van Terheyden, MD (@DrNic1), Dan Trott (@DantrottDell), Grace Cordovano, PhD, BCPA (@GraceCordovano), and John Lynn (@techguy) will lead a discussion on IoT in healthcare. We’ll dive into the question of where IoT is really useful and how healthcare organizations can be prepared for this deluge of health data and devices.

Wednesday, 2/13, 1:00 -1:30 PM (or however long people hang out) in the Hall B Lobby (Outside the Entrance to Hall B on the 1st Floor, Below the Bridge to the Hyatt)

Join us in the lobby outside Hall B to take a community picture and then mix and mingle with members of the #HITsm and #hcldr communities. We’ll plan to take the picture just after 1:00 PM so plan to show up early if you want to be in the picture. If you show up early, you can start connecting with the community before we take the picture as well. We look forward to seeing old friends, meeting new ones, and finally meeting some people who feel like old friends that we’re just meeting for the first time.

Thursday, February 14th – 10:30 – 11:30 AM at Pegasystems Booth #3626
During this meetup, you will learn more on what’s driving the need for better patient engagement. In many ways, the healthcare industry is meeting patient expectations, but there is still much room for improvement.
