MUSC Health, the clinical enterprise, operates a 750-bed medical center in Charleston, South Carolina, which includes a nationally recognized Children’s Hospital, the Ashley River Tower (cardiovascular, digestive disease, and surgical oncology), Hollings Cancer Center (one of only 66 elite National Cancer Institute designated centers), a Level I Trauma Center and the Institute of Psychiatry. The comprehensive cardiac program at MUSC Children’s Heart Center has consistently been named one of the country’s top pediatric heart centers. In addition, there are more than 100 outreach clinics and telehealth sites (http://www.muschealth.org/about-us/).
The Manager, Lab Information Systems (LabIS) reports to the Director, Clinical and Revenue Cycle Systems / Information Solutions. Under limited supervision, the Manager, LabIS establishes strategic direction and ongoing supervision for a consolidated team of Clinical and System Analysts in the assessment, acquisition, training and installation of laboratory application software, systems and related hardware across the Enterprise. These systems include, but are not limited to: Cerner Millenium, Cerner CoPath, HistoTrac (HLA), Point of Care and other various other systems and applications. This position ensures staff works collaboratively with all Clinical Information Systems (CIS) and Revenue Cycle (RC) end users and the departments in Information Solutions division to investigate, trouble-shoot and resolve issues and problems identified by CIS and end-users. The Manager, LabIS ensures collaborative solutions are deployed across the clinical enterprise with a high level of customer service and support, solutions are developed collaboratively with the other clinical information systems teams, Informatics Teams (Clinical / Non-Clinical), Revenue Cycle teams, Analyst Teams, Analytics, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Clinical and Management staff and System Educators. The Manager ensures ongoing maintenance and support services, as well as deliverables for change requests and new projects, are completed in a timely and efficient manner with a high level of end-user satisfaction. This role coordinates project management functions within their area of responsibility and collaborates with other project leaders across the department. This position provides management information systems support through participation in periodic 7 x 24 on-call rotation.

Master’s Degree preferred. Bachelor’s Degree required. Five (5) years’ experience including at least three (3) years’ experience supporting Lab clinical information system functions, such as orders communication, results routing, charging, mapping, etc. Experience in an academic medical center setting preferred. Demonstrated leadership capabilities. Experience with Epic highly preferred; one or more Epic certifications desired. PMP certification desired. Six sigma green belt (or higher) desired. Industry accepted informatics / information technology certification(s) preferred. Demonstrated project management experiences; preferably in IT and healthcare. A demonstrated knowledge of computer hardware and operating system software, Laboratory Information System Software, network capabilities, HL7 interfaces, personal computer applications, business intelligence, and laboratory charging practices. Has expert knowledge of business operations, policies and practices. Skilled leader who can work independently and lead a team to find new solutions and enhancements within the product and business processes. Ability to translate technical or procedural information into specifications or action plans and to convey technical or complex information to others in non-technical terms.
