It’s painful to watch job seekers make some of the same mistakes over and over again. Turns out that Bernard Marr feels the same way and has created this list of 20 mistakes that people keep making (Again, and again).

  1. Typos on your resume.
  2. Waiting for the job to come to you.
  3. Relying on job postings.
  4. Casual searching.
  5. Lying on your resume.
  6. Not casting a wide enough net.
  7. Sending unsolicited resumes.
  8. Disengaging from your networks.
  9. Sending the same resume for every job.
  10. Talking instead of listening.
  11. Including random (or inappropriate) hobbies.
  12. Failing to follow up.
  13. Looking for “any job.”
  14. Not following instructions.
  15. Appearing unprofessional.
  16. Being unprepared in interviews.
  17. Being late to an interview.
  18. Not knowing your market value.
  19. Not having questions prepared.
