Welch Allyn Will Showcase the EarlySense Contact-Free Patient Monitoring and Electronic Vitals Documentation Systems at HIMSS13

Products offer easy-to-use features and options that provide clinicians with access to information they need to provide the best possible patient care

HIMSS Trade Show and Exhibition, New Orleans, La., USA, March 4, 2013—Welch Allyn, a leading medical diagnostic device company that specializes in helping clinicians improve patient outcomes, will showcase the EarlySense Vitals Surveillance System at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) trade show this week at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. The EarlySense System, an innovative monitoring technology from EarlySense Ltd., will be on display in Welch Allyn booth 1655. The system is designed to give clinicians the ability to identify early warning signs of patient safety risk and deterioration to help achieve better outcomes and fewer adverse events.

“The solutions Welch Allyn is featuring at HIMSS13 are a direct result of the growing demand for comprehensive technologies that anticipate and respond to unique healthcare provider needs around the world,” said Dave Perkins, senior category manager, Vital Signs, at Welch Allyn. “The products offer easy-to-use features and options that provide clinicians with access to information they need to provide the best possible patient care.”

Welch Allyn and EarlySense Ltd. recently entered into a strategic collaboration and distribution agreement for Welch Allyn to distribute the EarlySense Vitals Surveillance System to hospitals across the United States. The new system measures heart rate, respiration rate, patient movement while in bed and patient bed entries and exits, without ever physically touching the patient, using a sensor that is placed under the mattress of a bed. The EarlySense technology is designed to monitor patients on medical surgical floors who typically have their vital signs taken only once every four hours. In the event of a change in a patient’s status, the system provides alerts to the clinical staff via the bedside monitor, the central nursing station, hallway displays and directly to their pagers or in-house telephones.

Welch Allyn will also showcase its Connex® Electronic Vitals Documentation (EVD) System to demonstrate how patient data can be transmitted immediately to an EMR as it is captured. This all-in-one solution enables improvements in patient safety and clinical decision making and helps to reduce risk for facilities. Included in the Connex EVD System is the Welch Allyn Connex® Vital Signs Monitor (VSM), a full-color, touch-screen device that acts as three devices in one—providing comprehensive patient documentation on a single display. This documentation includes automatic measurements such as heart rate, blood pressure, temperature and pulse oximetry. It can also capture manual parameters such as respiration, height, weight and pain level and modifiers such as body position, O2 therapy details and others. The Connex VSM can be set up in spot-checking, monitoring or triage mode to accommodate healthcare facilities’ needs.
