Happy Anniversary to HealthcareITToday.com and me! I am so excited to celebrate that I’ve been blogging on the site for a year now. I can’t believe a year went by so quickly, although I don’t seem to have aged a day! 😉
Although what really started me thinking about my blogiversary (read blog anniversary) was Joe Lavelle’s post “Can a Blog Accelerate Your Career?” In this post, Joe and another author advocate to write about the career you want and dress the part when trying to land your dream job. At this point, I couldn’t accurately say that a blog has accelerated my career; however I may be speaking prematurely. Perhaps I should ask my current employer and investigate whether he reviewed my blog prior to hiring me. Follow up on that pending.
Although I would also like to add to these points that blogging in your career field is also enjoyable. You obviously have a particular job because you know something about it so write about what you know. Here at HealthcareITToday.com, we all know something about career services and healthcare IT, hence the marriage of the two. You don’t just have to blog to get to your next career step. Integrate blogging into your current job and enjoy sharing the knowledge you’ve worked hard to build with your colleagues and readers.
My favorite part of Joe’s post was the advice to shut down your blog if you are no longer going to post regularly. I see blogging and social media as an all or nothing kind of thing and I believe there are many that would agree with me. Do it well or don’t do it at all. To have a legitimate online presence, one must post at predictable intervals so readers receive new information. As a follower of many other blogs, I agree that content-rich blogs are the best and most effective at engaging readers.
It’s also great practice to expand your writing skills!
I am so very happy to be blogging on this site and looking forward to another year! Happy Blogiversary!
