Cancer Never Quits

If you have taken a look at my blog posts from this year, you’ll know a little bit about the tumultuous year that has occurred for my family and me due to my mother’s breast cancer. It’s a terrible thing, cancer. This blog post is just a short, mish-mash of thoughts about cancer as well as a directing to another and very famous, blogger about to embark on the same journey I have taken this year.

I’m usually not one for reflecting over the past year around the end of December. I can appreciate the Year in Review Photo Journals; however in general, I’m just not one for looking back. This year is a little different since my family’s lives changed drastically with a breast cancer diagnosis, surgeries, severe medical complications and chemotherapy. I wrote about nurses and Healthcare IT and their contributions to my mother’s treatment.

Headed into 2012 she’s still fighting to make a full recovery and is very grateful to have come through 2011. If you experienced something similar in 2011, my hat is off to you. And if you didn’t, I would encourage you to reach out to those you know who did, or perhaps donate however you could (maybe with your time?) to help those in need or struggling. Doing something a little philanthropic seems like a great way to start the New Year.

Finally, if you have not seen or read Dr. John Halamka’s blog post about his family’s upcoming cancer fight, please do. And please offer your support. We all need it, this and next year.

A very happy and healthy new year to you all.
