Executives to Discuss Important Role of RTLS in Connected HIT Ecosystem’s Medical Device and Intelligent Hospital Pavilions
SAN DIEGO, California – February 17, 2012 – Awarepoint Corporation, the leading provider of real-time location system (RTLS) solutions for healthcare, announced today that its CEO, Jay Deady, VP of National Accounts, Carla Gallegos, and Brian Leader of Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) will discuss the importance of RTLS in building a healthcare information technology (HIT) ecosystem during the HIMSS12 Annual Conference & Exhibition and at the Intelligent Hospital Pavilion.
Deady and Gallegos will describe how hospitals can leverage and integrate RTLS with medical devices, electronic health records (EHRs) and other HIT solutions to enhance quality of care, patient safety, and clinician workflow at the Clinical Engineering and IT Community – ACCE Reception and Awards at 6 p.m., Feb. 21 at the Venetian, Bellini 2104. During this event, ACCE will debut a video documentary recognizing and featuring interviews with its first group of “elders” comprised of eight clinical engineers who have made significant contributions to the field of clinical engineering. Awarepoint is a co-sponsor of the ACCE Elders documentary.
“Awarepoint congratulates the ACCE Elders for their vision, contributions, and commitment to using technology to improve healthcare,” Deady said. “We share their commitment and look forward to increasing awareness about how ACCE and HIMSS members can integrate and leverage RTLS solutions with medical devices and clinical systems to transform clinical, operational, and financial outcomes.”
The “Meet the Experts: Clinical Engineering and IT Working Together” session begins at 5 p.m. on Feb. 21 at the Medical Device Pavilion, booth #14647, Hall G in the Venetian Sands Expo Center. The Medical Device Pavilion, which is co-sponsored by ACCE and HIMSS, is a forum for industry stakeholders to share best practices and insights for medical device and EHR interoperability and connectivity.
“We are very grateful for Awarepoint’s support of our Elders and HIMSS programs,” said Mario Castaneda, president of ACCE. “Hospitals today face intense pressure to improve care at a reduced cost, and Jay’s and Carla’s presentations align perfectly with our goal of educating the industry on how clinical engineers can collaborate with other healthcare stakeholders to make patient care better, safer, and more efficient.”
Awarepoint’s RTLS technology will be the focus of a presentation at the Intelligent Hospital Pavilion. Brian Leader, vice president of the orthopedic service and perioperative services at LVHN, and James Miller, director of anesthesia services at Lehigh Valley Anesthesia Services, both in Allentown, Penn., will present “Using Real-time Patient and Resource Information to Analyze Workflow and Improve Perioperative Processes.” Their session will cover how RTLS provides actionable data to improve workflow, staff productivity, communication, quality of care, patient experience, and revenue in the perioperative areas including the operating room and post anesthesia care unit. The session will be held at booth #12442on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012 at 4:45 p.m., and Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012 at 10:15 a.m.
The Intelligent Hospital will demonstrate how the integration of clinical systems, RFID (radio-frequency identification), RTLS, medical devices, and other technologies can be delivered and coordinated inside and outside a hospital using live OR and ED scenarios.
Awarepoint, a platinum sponsor of the Intelligent Hospital Pavilion, will demonstrate aware360°Suite of RTLS-enabled solutions, at booth #12442.
