Back in July, Healthcare IT Today blogger Joe Lavelle wrote an insightful post entitled, “Can a Blog Accelerate Your Career?” In his post, Joe asserts that if handled well, a blog can often be leveraged as an exceptional career advancement tool. Like Joe, I stress the importance of a personal branding strategy to the Healthcare IT professionals I work with, but often they don’t seem to quite “get it” when it comes to the value of blogging. So, I must say that starting my Monday morning with this press release in my (ridiculously overcrowded with Viagra spam) Inbox put a smile on my face:
“Fairhope, AL, October 1, 2011– e4 Services, a leading professional consulting services company for healthcare providers, announced that Southeast Vice President of Business Development, Joe Lavelle has been named to the Alabama Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (ALHIMSS). In his new role, Mr. Lavelle will serve on the Board of Directors as Communications Chair.
“We are very excited to have Joe serving on the Board and working in this capacity,” says Kitty Cathcart, ALHIMSS Board President. “Joe’s writing, blogging and social media experience make him ideal for this position of leadership. We are pleased to have him in this role and are looking forward to working with him throughout the upcoming term.” The objective of the Communications Chair is to increase awareness of healthcare information and management systems that deliver the highest quality patient care.
Mr. Lavelle has worked in the healthcare industry for nearly 20 years in information technology creating innovative services and solutions to improve adoption, return on investment and satisfaction of healthcare information systems. Mr. Lavelle is also a career coach and published author dedicated to increasing the career growth and opportunities for his teams and clients.
Congratulations Joe! Your new role should provide all sorts of fodder for future blog posts, not to mention be a great stepping-stone in your career. And for those of you doubting Thomases or dubious Debbies who have been on the fence about the value of blogging? It’s time to jump down and get blogging!
