HIMSS Analytics Honors Nemours with Stage 7 Award

The HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 Award honors hospitals that operate in a paperless environment and represent best practices in implementation of the EMR

HIMSS Analytics announced the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children received its Stage 7 Award.  The award represents attainment of the highest level on the EMR Adoption Model (EMRAM), which is used to track EMR progress at hospitals and health systems. The hospital will be recognized at the 2012 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition on Feb. 21-24, 2012 in Las Vegas. And as of Aug. 30, 2011, Nemours is one of 59, or 1.1 percent, of the more than 5,000 U.S. hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Database, recognized by HIMSS Analytics with its Stage 7 Award.

“We are honored to be among the select group of hospitals recognized with the HIMSS Stage 7 Award. The Nemours model of care relies on the use of technology to allow all members of a patient’s care team—including the family—to contribute to improving the health of the child,” commented Dr. Kevin B. Churchwell, Chief Executive Officer of the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. “As we further develop these capabilities, we are confident that the quality and safety of the health experience we deliver to children in our care will also continue to improve.”

HIMSS Analytics developed the EMR Adoption Model in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics™ Database.  Tracking their progress in completing eight stages (0-7), hospitals can review the implementation and utilization of information technology applications with the intent of reaching Stage 7, which represents an advanced patient record environment. The validation process that confirms a hospital has reached Stage 7 includes a site visit conducted by an executive from HIMSS Analytics and former or current chief information officers to ensure an unbiased evaluation of the Stage 7 environments.
Nemours is one of the nation’s leading pediatric health systems, dedicated to advancing higher standards in children’s health. The health system operates by its promise to do whatever it takes to prevent and treat even the most disabling childhood conditions.  The use of NemoursOne, a fully integrated electronic medical record system, enables an environment where all patient data can be captured, monitored and used to continuously improve children’s health. In 2010, Nemours received the HIMSS Davies Organizational Award for Excellence for its effective use of health information technology to improve the safety and quality of patient care.
“Congratulations to Nemours for earning the HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 award, an honor recognizing its system-wide deployment of the electronic health record,” said John P. Hoyt, FACHE, FHIMSS, Executive Vice President, for HIMSS.  “Nemours has essentially eliminated paper health records and improved its quality of care delivery with its 2009 implementation of the inpatient EHR.”
