Wanted: Director, Clinical Information Systems

Our client, UA Healthcare Inc. is a newly formed $1.2 Billion nonprofit healthcare entity located in Tucson, Arizona. It is a combination of two regional entities, University Medical Center (UMC) and University Physicians Healthcare (UPH), which operates University Physicians Hospital. UA Healthcare has 33 clinical sites, employs 6,000 employees and is one of the top ten employers in Southern Arizona. University Medical Center is a 437 bed academic medical center part of UA Healthcare and located at the Arizona Health Sciences Center, adjacent to The University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. AHSC includes the colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health as well as the physicians from University Physicians Healthcare.

UA Healthcare seeks an experienced and qualified Director, Clinical Information Systems to lead the clinical IT team. The Director, Clinical IS reports to the Chief Information Officer.

The Director:

•Plans and directs all aspects of design, implementation and maintenance of clinical information systems to effectively apply technology solutions to improve clinical operations. The Director performs administrative and management functions for UA Healthcare Clinical Information Systems Services.
•Provides leadership and direction in the analysis, selection, design, implementation and support of clinical information systems solutions.
•Plans, prioritizes, summarizes, directs and supervises staff, users and vendors in clinical systems development and support functions with an emphasis on complete, accurate and secure systems.
•Manages the analysis, selection, design, implementation and support of clinical information systems solutions.
•Demonstrates fiscal leadership and responsibility in utilizing resources.
•Responsible for the ongoing management of information security policies, procedures, and technical systems in order to maintain the confidentiality, integrity and availability of all organizational healthcare information systems and all electronic health information the organization creates, receives, maintains or transmits.
•Serves as primary ISS contact and resource for assigned user departments and assumes primary responsibility for meeting their clinical information requirements and supporting clinical applications.
•Provides leadership to information technology programs and services and participates in the management of the ISS department.
•Supports and integrates organizational goals into department activities.
•Manages ISS Clinical Systems staff.

•Bachelor’s degree required in a related field from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree in Business, MHA, or related field preferred.
•Certification in Project Management and prior project management experience in clinical information systems is preferred.
•Eight plus years of Clinical Information Systems leadership experience in a healthcare setting, academic environment a strong plus.
•Eclipsys or other advanced clinical system experience highly preferred.
