Wavelink Expands Mobile Device Management Offering for Healthcare

Wavelink Avalanche to manage tablets, smartphones, handheld devices and mobile printers through a central console; help organizations maintain HIPAA compliance

SALT LAKE CITY Feb. 16, 2011 — Wavelink Corporation (www.wavelink.com) today announced it is expanding its device management offering for healthcare applications and will be demonstrating its solutions next week at HIMSS 2011. Wavelink Avalanche enables healthcare organizations to secure and manage all the mobile devices on their network to allow caregivers better, faster access to data while helping maintain HIPAA compliance.

Mobile devices are becoming increasingly prolific among physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other caregivers. Whether it is a tablet computer, smartphone, a laptop cart or a data collection device, these mobile computers are leading to better communication and more extensive patient-caregiver interaction. These mobile devices place a greater burden on IT departments to track them, keep them updated and maintain data security and compliance.

With Wavelink Avalanche, network administrators can inventory, deploy, update and troubleshoot all components of their wireless infrastructure, such as mobile devices, mobile printers, access points and switches. Healthcare organizations can automate device updates and receive alerts that cover device failures, equipment updates and unwanted intrusions.  Data being transferred to or from devices can be encrypted and devices that are lost or stolen can easily be locked or wiped clean. Avalanche helps ensure data remains secure for patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.

“The industry is seeing great advancements in patient care through these mobile devices that allow patient and provider to confer over a given diagnosis, review a treatment or surgical procedure and view supporting documentation, videos and images,” said Jay Cichosz, vice president of marketing. “With Wavelink Avalanche, healthcare organizations can enjoy the benefits of using mobile devices without increasing their IT management costs or compromising data security and patient confidentiality.”

Wavelink Avalanche comes pre-loaded on most leading data collection devices as well as on Cisco 7900 Series phones. Customers simply need to purchase a license for their new devices to immediately be managed and secured. Wavelink also provides other solutions such as Terminal Emulation for mobile connectivity to host systems and Wavelink ConnectPro, which guarantees data will continue to transfer regardless of whether connectivity goes down.

Wavelink will be demonstrating at HIMSS 2011 in Orlando, Feb. 20 to 24, in booth #6183.
