Five months ago (July 2nd 2010), I wrote and posted a blog entitled – “I Got Certified for Healthcare IT Jobs, You Can Too!”
Many, many responses to this blog have been posted and I have done my best to respond to each reply. Since we are now in the holiday season, this seems like a good time to express my feelings about this blog’s inquiries and information exchange as a Healthcare Information Technology gift that keeps on giving. This blog’s discussion includes information about EMR Vendor Training and Certification, various University-level HIT degree programs, and local Community College-level EHR Certificate programs (most of these are recently being offered as non-college credited, certificate programs, that are funded by the government stimulus (ARRA) package). My first couple of “I Got Certified…” blogger responders (Lori and Rick) felt like the avenue I experienced in getting my EMR “vendor” certifications is outdated and suggested that most people will benefit by enrolling into the University-level and local College-level EHR courses instead. My response (and what I know to still be true, is that there is no “one way” to get EMR or EHR certified and it’s best to utilize all of the many great educational and training opportunities now available for this evolving HCIT industry. Do your own research and decide on the best path to get into this exciting and much sought after professional field of endeavor.
The remaining (and on-going) blogger responders to my “I Got Certified…” blog have provided an opportunity for us to see what a strong interest people from various parts of our nation have expressed interest in finding the best way to get this EMR / EHR education and training and most importantly, getting hired for these HCIT jobs! I have continued to share how relevant my path about 6 years ago to earn my EMR Vendor Certifications is and how fortunate I was to take the initiative to complete this very intense course of study, project completion, and then pass the 2-hour exams. Anyone out there who has also completed this vendor’s certification process is well aware of what I’m reminiscing. This opportunity continues to be offered to many, many folks who are hired by hospitals and/or clinics. One of my “I Got Certified…” blogger responders (Roger Williams) wrote “….luck is opportunity meeting preparation.” I appreciate how so many of my blogger responders like Derrick, Trisha, Georgianne, and Jessie have shared their educational and professional backgrounds and EMR / EHR career pursuits and I appreciate their expression of thanks for all the information being provided via this blog. I’m also getting phone calls from several of my blogger responders, who are also sharing their EMR /EHR and HCIT employment pursuits and I’m happy to basically lend an “ear” and provide an honest exchange regarding How I Got Certified for Healthcare IT Jobs, You Can Too! …It’s definitely a gift that keeps on giving!
I’m looking forward to the New Year and announcing the dates and times of “I Got Certified…” Webinar series. Keep your eye on my blog so you can sign-up for this online webcast where I will continue to provide you additional information and tips for getting EMR / EHR education, training and certification.
Many Thanks and Happy Holidays,
