EMR Note Just a Billing Justification

Many of you might remember my post about EMR documentation by exception. Today I came across the best description of the problem with this form of documentation:

When a consultant sends you an EMR note, you are reading his Billing Justification.

Seems like this post is appropriate for President’s Day. Imagine the founding fathers wrote the constitution or bill of rights in order to justify their billing. We’d have 100 amendments, but only 10 of them that other people needed to read. Luckily our founding fathers had the good sense to only pen what was needed. Maybe we should take a lesson from these amazing men.

  • Please take a look at the Doctor’s conference hosted by Health 2.0 in Jacksonville Florida on April 24th. This conference was inspired by a large group of community practices in Jacksonville who want to know more about the latest EMR solutions. Consider posting it on you blog.
Thanks – I think it will be a useful cheap informative quick introduction to the solo and group practitioner

  • Thanks for sharing Jamie. That’s an interesting twist on a health 2.0 conference. I’ll add it to my queue and see if it can fit into a future post.

It’s interesting, because the conference looks like it’s more focused around the EMR stimulus money and health 2.0 concepts. Seems like this is more focused on current users of an EMR.

I find this especially interesting, because I’m currently putting together a conference that will focus on those who don’t yet have an EMR software. Basically, the nuts and bolts of finding the right one, and implementing it in their office. Of course, we’ll cover the stimulus money as well since it’s on everyone’s mind. I’m planning to do that in September so watch for that.
